Accidental Door Wreath

I recently got a Silhouette Cameo {thanks hubby!}, and I've been playing with it when Caleb naps. The other day I found a foam wreath that I bought awhile back and decided to see what else I had left in my craft closet.

I found some leftover burlap from a previous project and wrapped it around the foam wreath with a little help from my hot glue gun.

I love burlap!

I then decided to test out my Silhouette by cutting out posterboard. I wanted to make a "hey y'all" sign out of 1" plywood, but needed to test out how to cut a stencil.

The lettering and size came out perfect!

I didn't have any extra wood laying around and I couldn't go to the store because Caleb was napping, so I started a "science experiment". Step 1: spray paint the posterboard cutout.

Step 2: let it dry {I only waited 30 minutes...I was just playing around}
Step 3: cover in contact paper, because posterboard won't survive outside
Step 4: cut it out with my exacto knife

The sign was pretty sturdy after covered in contact paper, so I decided to see if I could attach it to the wreath. I used my hubby's fishing string and tied the sign in 3 parts, and you can't see it! Finally, I added some girly ribbon.

And whaddaya know! I have a wreath for my southern front door! I want to make a "hey y'all" sign out of wood, but I need to make a trip to the store and borrow a jigsaw, so for now this "science experiment" turned into my accidental door wreath.

I foresee a long and beautiful relationship between my Silhouette and me! Do you have a Silhouette? What do you use it for? I need some more project ideas!

  7. What depth did you set the blade? And thickness? Mine cut in some spots and not in others

    1. I'm sorry, I can't remember 100%. Try selecting the thickest card stock setting, change the blade size to one-two size larger than suggested, double cut, and slow the speed. I hope that helps!
